I’m pretty sure you all know what you want: full classes/diaries, happy clients, confidence, consistent income, and financial freedom – you may want all of those, a mixture or some other things too. It certainly was the dream when you started your business, but now you’re running around like a headless chicken, feeling like your world is a house of cards that’s going to blow down any minute.
You just want more clients, confidence and success.
As an online business and mindset coach, I see a trap that ambitious but overwhelmed fitness and wellbeing business owners fall into again again. I’m here today to get you out of it (or stop you falling in).
Stop pushing ahead.
You can’t rush to step 10 without starting at step 1.
You need to make sure the foundations of your business are rock solid.
Missing important steps in your process of building your business is going to mean you’re working harder, earning less and constantly aware that things could come crashing down at any moment.
When you skip the foundational steps, it’s like trying to do an advanced yoga pose without learning the basics and/or doing the warm up first – it might work for a minute, but eventually, you’ll get hurt or frustrated.
I get it. You think you already know what needs to be done. I’ve been there too, chasing after those success stories and wondering why I wasn’t hitting the same milestones right away as other people.
I had to find out for myself that there are no shortcuts to real, sustainable growth and success. Skipping steps, rushing through the process, or trying to juggle too much at once doesn’t get you to the finish line faster; it just leads to stress, burnout, disappointment and ultimately holds your business back as you are forced to slow down.
You’re not alone.
I see so many fitness and wellbeing business owners dive straight into marketing campaigns or complex offerings without really understanding their audience, defining their brand, or ensuring their services solve a real need.
You might think skipping ahead saves time, but in the long run, it does the opposite. Instead of focusing on building something solid, you end up putting out fires left and right.
Why?
Because the foundation you’re standing on was never stable in the first place. Too many business owners operate in a reactive mode. You’re constantly responding to whatever new trend or opportunity comes your way, feeling like you’re busy and productive but never really moving forward. Sound familiar?
Shifting to a responsive mindset is where the magic happens.
It’s about slowing down, looking at the bigger picture, and making decisions that align with your long-term goals. It takes discipline and planning but it brings clarity – clarity for you and your clients. Remember a confused potential client never buys and a confused current client never stays.
Why Step 1 Matters
Laying a Solid Foundation: Just like the human body needs to master basic movements before progressing to advanced workouts, your business needs strong foundations. Without that, you’re always going to feel like you’re just keeping your head above water.
Preventing Overwhelm: When you try to do everything all at once, you’ll end up stressed, overwhelmed, and unsure which way to turn. Starting with the basics helps you stay focused and in control.
Clarity in Decision-Making: By laying out your path step by step, you won’t have to second-guess every decision. You’ll know where you’re headed and why.
Building Confidence: Every small win builds momentum. As you progress, your confidence will grow, and that’s exactly what your clients need from you – someone who’s calm, clear, and confident in their direction.
I know how tempting it is to want to be at step 10 right now. You’ve got big dreams, and that’s great, but the real success comes when you embrace the process.
Starting where you are isn’t a setback; it’s the key to getting where you want to go.
Progress might feel slower than you’d like, but that doesn’t mean you’re failing. In fact, moving steadily forward is exactly how you build something that lasts.
If the idea of starting from step 1 is overwhelming, I am here to help.
In fitness and wellbeing, your clients can’t expect to skip the basics and still hit their goals. And it’s the same for you and your business. By starting where you are, laying a strong foundation, and trusting the process, you’re building something that will grow and thrive long into the future.
Always ask yourself: Is this truly step 1 or do I need to know, do, be or have something else before I continue?
Until next time,
Best wishes
