Reflection and celebration aren’t just one-off tasks to tick off your to do list. They’re ongoing practices that can have a profound impact on your mindset, success, and business growth. These practices not only help you recognise progress but also help to develop an abundant growth-based mindset which is essential for long term success.
In the day to day hustle and bustle of running a business, it’s easy to only focus on what’s not working. Reflection and celebration shift your focus allowing you to also acknowledge what’s going well. When you reflect on even the small wins, you acknowledge progress and develop an “attitude of gratitude.” This positive reinforcement keeps you energised and focused on growth rather than dragging you down into the doldrums and slowing progress.
Celebrating your achievements reminds you that you’re capable of success; it provides the evidence our ego craves and needs. When we provide ourselves with evidence we allow ourselves to reconnect with our confidence as well. When challenges arise, drawing from past wins helps keep your confidence connected. Regular reflection and celebration build a bank of positive experiences to rely on when times are challenging.
When you acknowledge your successes, you also reinforce the belief that there’s always enough; enough clients, money, and opportunities. When you know there’s always going to be enough, you make decisions quicker, you spend less time feeling overwhelmed or procrastinating.
One of the biggest risks in the fitness and wellbeing industries is burnout. Reflection and celebration provide a break from the norm, a pause for you to notice what you do and don’t want to continue doing. When you don’t take this time you can end up repeating the same exhausting behaviour patterns because they become familiar and safe, even if they aren’t bringing you the results you want.
When it comes to reflection and celebration these are the main things you need to know:
- Plan regular times to reflect and celebrate. You may reflect weekly, or monthly or quarterly but you need to put it in your diary and make it non-negotiable.
- When reflecting, ask yourself the following questions: What went well? What would I change? What are the lessons? What are the wins? There will be some overlap in the answers and that’s ok.
- Celebrate all the wins no matter how big or small. Simply writing your wins in a Celebration book is enough to acknowledge them and to create that feel good factor.
- Find a way to celebrate that works for you – a dance in the kitchen to your favourite tune, buying yourself a bunch of flowers, reading through your Celebration book. It doesn’t have to be a big flamboyant affair (but it can be). The most important thing is that the energy of celebration is there.
- Don’t just leave your reflection information in a book somewhere! Use it to plan your business growth and strategy. Repeat the things that went well and don’t do the things that didn’t.
Today I invite you to give reflection and celebration a go and use it in your business strategy going forwards. Your ego may well resist it because it will lead to change so make sure you remind it why this is important and why it is worth it.
Until next time,
Best wishes
