Productivity is not what most people think it is.
It’s not just about getting things done, it’s about getting the right things done.
If you’re constantly working, ticking off tasks, and pushing through your to-do list but never stepping back to reflect, you might be busy but that doesn’t mean you’re productive.
The key to real productivity isn’t just effort, it’s ensuring that both creativity and logic have a place in your work. This is especially important for fitness and wellbeing business owners that have to draw on a lot of both to keep their business moving forward.
Why creativity and logic need to work together:
Creativity fuels innovation, problem-solving, and fresh ideas. It allows you to think beyond the obvious, come up with unique solutions, and approach challenges from new angles.
Without creativity, your work can feel stagnant and repetitive, leaving you stuck in the same cycle of effort without real growth. This is where resentment starts to grow. Business owners find themselves falling out of love with their business and sometimes even thinking about giving up.
On the other hand, logical thinking ensures that ideas don’t just stay on paper; it’s what brings them to life. Structure, planning, and execution turn creative thoughts into tangible results.
Without logic, you may have plenty of ideas but no real progress.
Without balance…
Many people get stuck in one mode or the other.
You might spend too much time dreaming, researching, or writing all your ideas down without acting.
Or
You could be so focused on execution that you lose sight of whether your work is actually moving you in the right direction.
The trick is learning when to switch between the two.
The good news is, you don’t have to choose between being creative and being efficient. You just need to make space for both.
Here’s how:
- Incorporate Reflection Time
Give yourself space to step back and let ideas settle. If you’re constantly jumping from task to task, you don’t give your brain time to process and connect the dots. Schedule regular pauses, even if it’s just five minutes, to reflect on whether what you’re doing is effective and taking you in the right direction.
- Engage in Activities That Spark Creativity
Creativity doesn’t happen on demand, but you can create the right conditions for it. Some of the business owners I work with find engaging in artistic pursuits sparks creativity in their business – crafting, drawing, painting, knitting, woodwork – anything that allows those creative juices to flow. They report that some of their best ideas have come when not actually actively working on their business.
- Set Clear Work Sessions
Trying to be creative and logical at the same time can lead to frustration. Instead, separate these tasks. Have dedicated mind dumping sessions where you let ideas flow without judgment, and then set focused execution sessions where you refine, structure, and bring those ideas to life.
As I said earlier, your best ideas often come when your mind is at ease, not when you’re forcing yourself to be productive.
True productivity isn’t just about doing more; it’s about knowing when to think, when to plan, and when to act.
Give yourself permission and intentional space to switch between creative and logical thinking. You’ll not only get more done but also create work that truly matters.
Until next time,
Best wishes
