Rest and recovery is vital may seem like a rather dramatic title for this blog however, for me, rest and recovery is vital.

Without rest and recovery a part of me runs the risk of burning out and another part of me risks not getting the attention it needs.

A part of me gets its needs met by being productive, having a full diary, doing the work and crossing off the to do list. However another part of me does not get their needs met and often feels ignored. This can lead to resentment and a lack in motivation. If this carries on for a prolonged length of time we can burnout but for many business owners, the major wake up call happens when they feel like they are losing the love for their business.

I invite you to take some time over the next few weeks to rest and recover. This doesn’t have to mean you do nothing but instead do something different. Allow that part of you that has been working and showing up to take a rest; allow other parts of self to be dominant and come to the forefront. Take a moment to check in with yourself and really notice how you feel. Many of us are so busy rushing around that we end up being last on our list or we forget about ourselves completely. . I highly recommend taking some time to rest and recover so your energy tank is full rather than starting 2023 on a half empty tank.

When it comes to rest and recovery do what works for you.

Some of you will lie on the sofa in your oversized fleece hoodie watching Love Actually for the 18th time.

Some of you will go out hiking in the countryside taking in the fresh air and enjoying the views.

Some of you will be dancing the night away at parties and events.

Some of you will be playing games and having fun with family.

Some of you will spend time on your own away from the craziness of it all.

Do what works for you.

Remember that just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

In these moments of rest and recovery, of doing something different, of allowing other parts of self to come to the forefront, I often find clarity that I never even knew was there. I also have some of my best ideas when I am taking a break. Perhaps some of you will know what I’m talking about. Maybe you’ve had a cracking idea while lying on a beach or taking a shower or driving the car – in these moments of doing something different we are allowing a different part of self to come to the forefront and allowing the part that is so focused on business to take a rest.

So will you be taking time to rest and recover? What will you choose to do or not do?

I wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2023.

Until next time,

Best wishes
