Every fitness or wellbeing business owner dreams of working with clients who inspire and energise them. But you’ve been in business long enough to know attracting your dream clients doesn’t happen by accident. It requires intention, clarity, and, yes, planning.

Without a solid plan to seek, find and convert these future dream clients, you might end up taking on clients who drain your energy or leave you second-guessing your business path.

We all know that’s no way to live.

Planning for your ideal (dream) clients can transform your business, boost your mindset, and make every workday feel meaningful (and fun). Here’s some pointers to get you started:

  1. Define your dream clients

The first step in planning for your dream clients is to get crystal clear on who they are. This process doesn’t exclude people, it focuses your energy on the clients you can help the most.

  • Think about the types of clients who make you excited to go to work. What are their goals? Challenges? Personalities?
  • Identify their needs and tailor your services to solve their specific problems.
  • When you plan your marketing and messaging around your ideal clients, you’ll naturally attract more of them.

You can audit your current client base to help you. Take a close look at your current clients and ask yourself:

  • Which clients energise and inspire you?
  • Are there clients who consistently drain your energy or create unnecessary stress?
  • Do your current clients align with the long-term vision you have for your business?

By identifying who fits your dream client profile and who doesn’t, you can start to adjust your marketing and services to attract more of the right people.

  1. Mindset: Focus on abundance, not scarcity

A scarcity mindset tells you to accept every client, even if they’re not the right fit, because you’re afraid of losing business. But working with clients who don’t align with your vision will only lead to frustration.

  • Shift your mindset to believe there are plenty of clients out there who need exactly what you offer.
  • Planning for your dream clients creates a sense of abundance, allowing you to say “no” to mismatched opportunities without fear.
  • When you focus on serving the right people, your energy and enthusiasm will shine through, attracting even more of your ideal clients.

  1. Create a client journey

Once you’ve identified your dream clients and embraced an abundance mindset, the next step is to map out how you’ll serve them with intention and care.

Planning isn’t just about attracting the right clients; it’s also about giving them an exceptional experience. Mapping out a client journey ensures that every touchpoint, from the first inquiry to the final session, reflects your values and expertise.

  • Plan how you’ll onboard new clients, including welcome emails, resources, or consultations.
  • Think about how you’ll support them throughout their journey, such as regular check-ins or progress updates.
  • End with a memorable offboarding experience, like a personalised thank you or tips for maintaining their results. Always “keep the door open” for them to return if their circumstances change.

  1. Set and enforce boundaries
Working with dream clients requires clarity on what you will, and won’t, accept. This includes:
  • Defining your ideal client: Clearly articulate who your services are for (and who they aren’t).
  • Clear contracts: Outline expectations, commitments, and deliverables upfront to prevent misunderstandings.
  • Learning to say no: It’s okay to decline clients who aren’t ready to commit or don’t align with your values. This will create space for those who truly belong in your business.

Boundaries empower you to stay aligned with your purpose and serve your clients with more energy and focus.

These are just a few pointers to help get you started with planning for your dream clients. As you go through these steps I invite you to be curious about anything that may come up for you. Perhaps you hear the voice of doubt,

“You can’t only work with those people. There aren’t enough of them to go round.”

Or perhaps you hear the voice of alignment,

“This is exciting and exactly who I want to help and can help.”

If something comes up and you know it is going to hold you back, slow you down or stop you in your tracks, remember that this is about mindset and you can change it. Reach out if you need support with this. This is what I support clients with all the time in business.

So what steps will you take this week to attract your dream clients? The decision is yours. It’s up to you.

Until next time,

Best wishes
