I’m sure you have heard coaches banging on about the importance of knowing you why. In fact you may use “Why?” as a tool with your clients:

Why do they want to get out of pain?

Why do they want to be less stressed?

Why do they want to get fitter?

Today I am here to remind you of this fabulous tool and the impact it can have – positive and negative.

We’ve all had those days where motivation feels like a distant memory, and the passion that once fueled our dreams seems to have fizzled out. It happens to the best of us. Remember reconnecting with your “why” can reignite that fire within and fuel you forward. The deep-rooted reason behind why you do what you do – is crucial. It’s the secret sauce (to use a very business industry based buzz phrase) to attracting clients, sustaining success, and finding fulfilment in your work.

Why Knowing Your “Why” Matters

  1. Authenticity Attracts Clients:

When you’re clear about your “why” it shines through in everything you do. Clients can sense and smell authenticity which means they can also sense and smell inauthenticity. They’re not just looking for a service; they’re looking for a connection, a reason to choose you instead of anyone else. When your passion and purpose are front and centre, it resonates with people on a deeper level. They see that you’re not just in it for the money – you genuinely care about helping them achieve their goals.

  1. Boosts Motivation and Resilience:

Running a small business definitely has its challenges. There may be tough days and moments of doubt. Knowing your “why”  gives you a powerful source of motivation to push through the challenges. It reminds you why you started in the first place and helps you stay committed, even when the going gets tough. If you don’t have your “why”  in place, you may find resentment and procrastination creeping in and longer term you may find yourself losing the love for what you do and thinking about giving up.

  1. Makes Decision Making Easier:

When you know your “why” it’s easy to make your decision as your why becomes your guidance system, your compass. Your “why”  is your purpose, your reason for being and showing up. Every decision needs to be in alignment with your “why” so you can simply ask yourself which way gets you closer to that in the decision making process. This leads to less time wasted making decisions and less stress. Obviously if you don’t know your “why” it can lead to stress and a lot of time being wasted as you mull over your decision.

Practical Steps:

  1. Spend some time getting to know why you do what you do. Why you want more clients and what it means to you.
  2. Write out your “why”  and have it on display and/or read it regularly.
  3. Create a visual representation of your “why”  and again have it on display and connect with it regularly.

In Conclusion…

It can be easy to lose sight of why you started in the first place, in fact your ego will sometimes go out of its way to make sure you forget – especially if your “why”  is going to lead to change. Remember, your “why” is the heartbeat of your business. It’s what attracts clients, fuels your passion, and propels your success. Your “why”  is not something to be underestimated or taken for granted; connect with it on a regular basis and notice the positive difference it makes.

Until next time,

Best wishes
