As a fitness or wellbeing business owner, you’re probably used to thinking about energy all the time. After all, your work revolves around helping clients manage their physical, mental and emotional energy, whether that’s through fitness routines, nutrition guidance, counselling, hypnotherapy or another fitness/wellbeing offering. But when it comes to money, a lot of business owners don’t realise that money is also just energy. It’s an exchange between you and your clients, where both sides are offering something of value.

You share your energy in the form of knowledge, skills, understanding and experience to help your clients achieve their goals. In return, they share their energy in the form of money to compensate you for the transformation you help them achieve. Sounds simple, right? Yet, for many fitness and wellbeing business owners, money can feel like a loaded subject – a dirty consequence of helping people. Whether it’s the belief that money is hard to come by, the fear of charging too much, or the habit of putting everyone else’s needs before your own – these mindset blocks can seriously hold you back.

Shifting your perspective on money as energy can help you build an abundant money mindset and achieve the business success you’re aiming for. When you think of money in terms of simply being energy, it becomes less about a cold transaction and more about the flow of energy between you and your clients. You’re giving something valuable – your time, expertise, skills and understanding – and in return, your clients are giving back through financial compensation. It’s a natural exchange, not something to feel uncomfortable or guilty about.

When you understand this energy exchange some major mindset shifts happen which set you and your business up for success:

  1. You stop feeling guilty about charging for your services.

A lot of fitness and wellbeing business owners struggle with pricing their services. You might think, “I just want to help people, should I really charge this much?” or “If I raise my prices, will clients stop coming?” But remember, you’re offering your energy – your years of learning, your passion, and your commitment to helping people change their lives. It’s only fair that your clients offer their energy (in the form of money) in return. When you see money as energy, it becomes a natural part of the relationship, not something to feel guilty about.

  1. You attract clients who value your services.

If you’re constantly undercharging or giving discounts because you feel bad about charging what you’re worth, you’re going to attract clients who don’t truly value what you offer. Clients who understand the value of the energy you’re giving are happy to exchange their money for the results you help them achieve. This doesn’t mean pricing yourself out of the market, but it does mean recognising your worth and attracting clients who respect that.

  1. You open yourself to abundance.

A lack mindset around money will keep you stuck. Maybe you’ve grown up with familiar stories like “money is hard to come by” or “I’m not the type of person who makes a lot of money.” These beliefs can create invisible barriers to success. But when you start seeing money as a flow of energy, you can break free from these limiting beliefs and open yourself to abundance. Your business isn’t just a way to make ends meet; it’s a channel for creating and receiving energy in a balanced and fulfilling way.

Many of us carry around outdated beliefs about money – stories we’ve absorbed from family, society, or past experiences. You may have said or thought a few of these yourself:

– “People won’t pay that much for fitness/wellbeing services.”

– “I’m not in this for the money, I’m in it to help people.”

– “If I charge more, I’ll lose clients.”

– “People like me don’t make money like that.”

– “My business is in a poor area. People here can’t afford what I want to charge.”

The problem is these beliefs are based on fear, scarcity and lack. They limit your potential. Building a successful business means embracing a mindset of abundance, and that starts with understanding that money is not bad. It’s simply a tool for energy exchange, one that allows you to thrive while continuing to help others. If you don’t charge your worth, you run the risk of resentment developing and nothing ever good grows from a place of resentment.

If you want to change your money beliefs, the first thing to do is to identify your money stories. What do you believe about money and why? What would you like to believe and why? You then need to take time to reframe any thoughts or beliefs that may be holding you back or getting in your way. Instead of viewing money as something you need to chase, start thinking of it as a natural byproduct of the energy and value you provide. You’re not asking for money out of greed; you’re simply engaging in a fair exchange of energy that benefits both you and your client. And last, but by no means least, you need to set clear boundaries and value your time. If you’ve been giving away lots of free advice or extra time because you feel bad about charging for it, it’s time to rethink that approach. Remember, your energy is valuable, and in order to keep helping clients effectively, you need to protect your own energy by setting boundaries and pricing your services appropriately.

In Conclusion…

Understanding that money is simply energy changes everything. It frees you from guilt around charging for your services and allows you to see the exchange of energy between you and your clients in a positive light. This mindset shift also reduces the risk of resentment developing and you sabotaging your progress. Practicing gratitude is a quick and easy way to keep you in a state of abundance which is vital for a money mindset set for succes. Set yourself financial goals, give your energy direction and let the money energy flow.
