Mindfulness Meditation and Me

At the beginning of May, this photo came up on my memories on Facebook. It shows my chum, Sarah, and me at the end of our first three days of our meditation training course. The training course was amazing. Excellent information and teaching with some fab people. The thing that struck me though was how tired I look in the photo.  I was knackered. I was running two businesses and I hadn’t realised just how much of a toll it was taking on me. Fast forward two years and I am running one business (having retired from the fitness industry back in September 2020) and I’m definitely less tired!

Meditation was and is a game changer in my life. I was first introduced to meditation back in 2014. At this time I was so overwhelmed, over-worked and over-committed that I had ended up with shingles. There seemed to be no wiggle room in my life and I simply couldn’t get a grasp on the clarity or focus I needed to move my business forward. This led me to be physically and mentally stressed. A part of me felt extremely over-whelmed and everything felt like a major struggle; it felt like I was trying to push water uphill. In September 2014 I was introduced to mindset coaching and meditation. Mindset coaching helped me to learn to work with all aspects of self and to understand a lot more about why I ended up in that place. Meditation helped me to tap into parts of myself that possibly I had forgotten. Meditation helped me to exercise parts of my mind that had been left dormant and to allow the parts that had been over-worked to have a well overdue rest. It enabled me to have a level of clarity that eluded me previously. Due to this new found clarity and focus, I was able to make massive changes in my business and in my life.

As a result of the amazing impact that mediation had on my life and business, I decided to train as a meditation teacher with the British School of Meditation. I now teach Mindfulness Meditation for Business Owners in the form of courses and one-off workshops. I take a scientific approach when it comes to meditation and mindfulness. The impact that meditation has on your brain is phenomenal.

Mindfulness meditation is not about:
Chanting
Sitting with your legs crossed.
Holding your hands in certain positions.
Bells and smells.
Only breathing in and out through your nose.
Clearing your mind.
Emptying your mind.
Doing things in a fixed and defined way that makes it unattainable for some.
Exclusivity.

Mindfulness Meditation is about:
Taking part in whatever you are comfortable with.
Sitting or lying in whichever position is comfortable for you.
Breathing in and out in a way that works for you.
Letting your thoughts float by.
Practising being present in the moment.
Taking time for you.
Inclusion.

If you run your own business and you want to explore the positive impact that Mindfulness Meditation can have on you and your business, I have new courses starting in June. If a course is not right for you then I also run one-off 2.5 hours workshop – An Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation for Business Owners. Until next time,
Best wishes
