Mindset and motivation are closely linked. When your mindset is strong, motivation flows more easily. When you’re feeling motivated, your mindset opens up and notices the abundance and the growth opportunities around you. They feed each other.
If you run a fitness or wellbeing business, learning how to strengthen this connection can make a huge difference to how you feel and how your business grows.
Your mindset shapes how you respond to everything that happens in your business. A fixed mindset tells you that if something doesn’t work, you’ve failed. That you’re not cut out for it. It’s safer to stop than risk another mistake. But a growth mindset sees it differently. It sees the setback, yes, but it also sees what you learned. It finds the next step. It keeps going.
A healthy mindset doesn’t mean thinking positive all the time. It means being able to think clearly, especially when things feel uncertain. It gives you the space to reflect instead of react. It helps you focus on what you can control instead of spiralling about what you can’t. And that’s what keeps motivation going.
When your mindset is off, it doesn’t matter how good your plans are. You’ll second-guess them. You’ll hesitate. You’ll find yourself scrolling instead of taking action.
When your mindset is steady, your motivation becomes more reliable. That’s what allows you to stay consistent, even when life feels messy.
How to strengthen your mindset and motivation:
1/ Stay curious
Keep learning, stay open, ask questions. Curiosity keeps your mind flexible and engaged. It helps you spot opportunities and notice what’s working. When you’re interested, you’re energised. That’s where motivation often begins.
2/ Take time to reflect
You don’t need to write pages every day but making space to check in with yourself regularly makes a difference. Notice what felt good. What felt off. Where your energy was. Where your confidence dropped. The more awareness you build, the more intentional you can be.
3/ Spend time with people who get it
The people around you shape your mindset more than you realise. When you’re in a group that celebrates effort, supports honesty, and shares their own messy middle moments, you stay motivated without pressure. It becomes easier to keep going.
4/ Talk to yourself like someone you care about
You don’t have to use cheesy affirmations, but your inner voice matters. If you’re always telling yourself you’re behind, not good enough, or not ready, motivation disappears. Practice backing yourself – be your own cheerleader. You don’t have to believe it straight away, but keep going until you do.
5/ Reframe setbacks
When something goes wrong remember, setbacks are part of the process. One post that flops doesn’t mean your business is doomed. One tricky client doesn’t mean you’re in the wrong industry. Look at what you can take from the experience, and what you’ll do differently next time.
6/ Set goals that mean something to you
Motivation sticks when the goal matters. Not just what you think you should want, but what genuinely excites you. If your goals feel flat, you might be chasing the wrong ones. Reconnect to what lights you up. That’s where your drive lives.
7/ Don’t wait for motivation to show up
Sometimes we tell ourselves we’ll start when we feel more motivated but often, motivation comes after you begin. Action creates momentum. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just take the next step and let that carry you forward.
The next time your motivation is waning I invite you to be curious about where your mindset is at – does it need a little boost? Remember the two are linked and by tweaking one you can tweak the other.
